Itinerary

Day 1Cusco – Cachora – Chiquisca

Our fantastic choquequirao sunset observation trip, begins with an early meet up at your hotel in cusco, then drive towards northwest of cusco upto a village named Cachora, this is the last town on the way, we will meet our local muleteers, and have breakfast, after that we’ll start our hike, a nice view of the majestic padrayoc will be our motivation to hike and say this trekking is perfect because of its magnificent view.

The hike leads by an smooth downhill that turns in to a flat dust road up to huancalle, here we where will stop to enjoy the view and have our snacks and enjoy the beautiful landscapes “from precipices to snowy mountains view”. at capuliyoc lookout point we will observe Apurimac canyon with its impressive depth (the second deepest canyon in Peru), from here the trail goes all downhill up to Chikiska, which is the campground.

In this day we will pass the small settlement named la Colmena (2870 above sea level), after this there is Cocamasana (2330 above sea level), and finally chiquisca (1950 asl) a grove place where we will spend the first night of choquequirao trek.

Day 2Chiquisca – choquequirao

Wake up at 05 in the morning, then have breakfast and get ready for the hardest part of the trek. It begins with a downhill path for one hour, then we cross the Apurimac River. From here the trail goes uphill by a switch back trail until maranpata.

After several stops, on the way there is a place named Santa Rosa where we can find snacks and water to buy, and after we will reach Maranpata which is the lunch spot, it is at a wide view point, it is also the end of the hardest part. After lunch, we follow a gentle section, then arrive in to a lookout point of choquequirao.

Finally after 2 more hours we arrive to the second campground, our team will set up our tents, we spend the afternoon just relaxing and enjoying the nature. Dinner is served at 6.30.

(Trek Difficulty: Challenge Hard. Total distance: 13 km (7.5 miles). Estimated walking time: 7 – 8 hours).

Day 3choquequirao

Our delicious Andean breakfast will give you energy for a large and beauty choquequirao sightseeing, we will wake up at 7 in the morning and have breakfast, then we walk to the lower terraces section, there are a large amount of terraces and couple houses that supposedly where for the farming masters, from here we climb up slowly enjoying the nature, we climb for about 1 hours and reach choquequirao main sector.

From here we descend to the llamas sector, these are at 20 minutes downhill, the llamas were created on the inca terraces, with white color stones, they are in a line and the view from the llamas observatory are stunning, then we climb up to  after main plaza and have a lunch at the site.

After lunch we can have siesta laying on the grassy ground, the after a good rest we climb up to the upper urban and religious sector, where we can enjoy the area, see the river and after that come down slowly to the usnu which is a platform on a hill that was made to worship good and offer ceremonies for the andean deities, here in the middle of the usnu we can meditate and wait the sunset, and we may see condors. From, here we descend to the camp. “Trek difficulty: Medium”.

Day 4Choquequirao – chiquisca – Coca Masana

We will wake up at 06:30 in the morning, then have great breakfast. after breakfast we begin the wayback, we’ll walk the same path, but this time it will be on backwards, it means to Apurimac River by the switchback trail, at arriving to chikisca we can stop for lunch.

After lunch we walk 03 more kilometers, on the way we can enjoy the beauty on the nature, some orchids, and native flowers are ornamenting the path, finally we reach the campsite, the place is at an incredible location, we will see the river and the green mount right in front of us. (at night, you can sit out for and watch the start before going to sleep).

Day 5Coca Masana – Cachora – Cusco

After early morning breakfast we re-start our trek, in this last day, way back to Cachora town, we will walk uphill trail for about 3 hours, enjoying again beautiful mounts and the apurimac canyon, our hike will end at noon..

At cachora we’ll lunch and after lunch take our transport to Cusco. The as an optional optional we can visit the conoc hot springs, then drive to Cusco arriving at about 18:00 hours and end our fantastic choquequirao classic trek.
